Curse of Strahd fans do well to read it as a guideline of sorts for a emmoirs sympathetic and human Strahd, for depth in the world they are to put so much passion in, and for a good book in general that they won’t regret, but I might be a touch generous with this book. Solidly not recommended to anyone.

The novel has a framing device where it starts with Van Richten sneaking into Castle Ravenloft and finding Strahd’s Journal.

I want to read more later Strahd now as a result so there is that. The floating, mist-like people behind him is an interesting touch, but I’m not really sure what they represent other than the mists. Overall, the first half was excellent, with a powerful feel of realism maybe more so because I was reading it on a quiet, thundery daybut when it got to th This was an oddly enjoyable book!

Character development was flat and cardboard, and I found it hard to invest emotionally in anyone. Being in the middle of the series, I was worried that it wouldn’t work as a stand alone, but it did for me at any rate. Well, except he now has super powers and needs to suck your blood. The first third was apprehensive reading but once past that section, I could not stop. No, but it wasn’t fantastic either. All in all a pretty good, non sappy vampire story that is a definite throw back to the old, scary kinds of the undead. I’m being sucked back into the mists, the demiplane of dread has me again!!! Our characters have full access to the contents of the novel as the Tome of Strahd sans prologue and epilogue.

Extremely derivative, but that would be expected by anyone familiar with the Ravenloft series or setting. By the time they are dead, it seems like ot author herself forgot about them.

I had always heard of I, Strahd as being one of the better books in the series, and I checked used bookstores throughout my teens trying to find memoits with no luck. Goodreads helps you keep track of books you want to read.

Memoifs good as Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter but takes itself more seriously. As Strahd grows weary with eternal life, the reader feels that sense of ennui along with him as we have all seen and felt his fall from grace.
